the official blog of the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District

Since 1989, Scientific and Cultural Facilities District (SCFD) has distributed funds from a 1/10 of 1% sales and use tax to cultural facilities throughout the seven-county Denver, Colorado metropolitan area. The funds support cultural facilities whose primary purpose is to enlighten and entertain the public through the production, presentation, exhibition, advancement and preservation of art, music, theatre, dance, zoology, botany, natural history and cultural history.

So last week was probably the craziest (and most fun) I’ve experience at SCFD to date; I do apologize for neglecting to blog.  Let me tell you about all the happenings, then you’ll surely understand!  Tuesday SCFD hosted a lovely Rex Morgan Tribute Luncheon at the Denver Arts Complex, where tribute artist Patrick Marold gave a presentation about his inspiration for the piece of art and how it came to life.

And on to Wednesday…

First was the SCFD Rex Morgan Tribute.  About 300 people gathered on the Galleria Terrace at the Denver Performing Arts Complex to watch the SCFD Rex Morgan Tribute Sculpture be gifted to the City of Denver.  The Tribute Sculpture has been about three years in the making so one can only imagine how excited SCFD staff, board, and the Rex Morgan Tribute Committee were to see the sculpture finally a reality and on display for all citizens of the district to enjoy!  The SCFD Rex Morgan Tribute was entirely funded by donations, SCFD is truly grateful for all the support and touched by all the community involvement on this project.  You can catch a glimpse of the sculpture driving past the Denver Performing Arts Complex on Speer Blvd, but its best viewed up close, so time to go on over to DPAC, catch a show and see the SCFD Rex Morgan Tribute Sculpture!

Then…

There was the Rex Morgan Award Ceremony, held at Chambers Grant Salon in the Ellie Caulkins Opera House.  What a magnificent night full of great performances from SCFD organizations and a touching speech made by Rex Morgan Award Recipient Sue Bodis.  I don’t know how we’ll top it next time!

Did I mention that we also had check ceremonies for Denver, Adams, and Arapahoe County last week?  Yup we are some pretty busy ladies!
