the official blog of the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District

Since 1989, Scientific and Cultural Facilities District (SCFD) has distributed funds from a 1/10 of 1% sales and use tax to cultural facilities throughout the seven-county Denver, Colorado metropolitan area. The funds support cultural facilities whose primary purpose is to enlighten and entertain the public through the production, presentation, exhibition, advancement and preservation of art, music, theatre, dance, zoology, botany, natural history and cultural history.

Centerfest :: Centercollaboration

With June sun warming the rainy days of May, SCFD organizations continue gearing up for summer.  I am particularly excited about the second year of Centerfest, a collaborative event hosted by the Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities.  Performances start tomorrow and continue through September 1st.

The best thing about Centerfest isn’t the outdoor seating or the close-knit community atmosphere (although these come in close second).  No, the best thing about Centerfest is the collaboration.  For example, on June 11 I have shivers up my spine in anticipation of Ballet Nouveau Colorado performing to the songs of local band Paper Bird.  Trust me, you’ve never seen ballet like this before:

Also coming up are collaborations between Fiesta Colorado and the Metropolitan Jazz Orchestra (“Sketches of Spain”), as well as “Classical Music for Rock Stars” presented by Colorado Ballet and The Playground.

Centerfest is proof of a fierce collaborative spirit that thrives within the SCFD community.  What we dream is not only possible, it happens every day.  Collaboration is key to an innovative artistic community free to explore new modes of artistic expression.  Will you come along for the ride?
